Act One wants to keep all those interested in the school's programs updated on upcoming events, Winter Term registration and other activities.
The topics below include both new information and some of the most common subject areas that we have been asked about over the past two months:
With this year’s Winter Cabaret now wrapped, Act One and its instructors hope that everyone (students and audience guests alike) found the shows both educational and entertaining. With 63 student performances over 6 shows, spanning Stage Theatre, Improv, Film and Musical Theatre, we hope everyone found something of interest on the night(s) they were here. On a personal note, I extend my sincerest gratitude to all the audiences, for providing the students with a supportive and comfortable environment in which to challenge themselves as performers. Without all of you, critical aspects of what it means to be an actor could not have been explored.
In wrapping up this event for 2025, I just want to highlight a couple of final notes:.
With the Winter Term beginning this week, Act One students can now look forward to exploring new aspects of drama. For Musical Theatre and Theatre Basics, they will soon begin working towards their year end performances. Stage Theatre classes will transition to exploring solo performance, through monologues, culminating in their second performance of the year, the “Weekend of Monologues”, that takes place over the Mar 28th to 30th weekend. The Improv classes turn their focus to individual story-telling and long-form Improvisation.
The school will be takings a break for the March Break week. There are no classes from Monday, March 10th though Sunday, March 16th.
In April, all classes turn their focus towards preparing for their end of year performances, in June.
The Winter Term begins this week. On-line registration for Winter Term classes is still possible for the first three weeks of the term (ie until Feb 23rd), as long as there is still space in the desired class. Please note that if a class is currently indicated as being full, it is possible to request to be put on a waiting list, in case a spot does open up during the first three weeks.
For those who may still be considering Winter Term classes for 2024/25, here are the Winter Term start dates for each of our current classes (in order of when they begin):
A quick reminder that all previous students and/or Summer and March Break campers receive a 5% discount off class fees if joining a class for the rest of the year.
You can find more detailed information on all classes on the school website. The on-line registration form can be accessed from here.
To help prospective students with advance planning, key registration, term and performance information/dates for the 2024/25 school year can be found here. Please note that these dates reflect our best planning given current circumstances. They are all subject to change, depending on future events.
Please be advised that due to scheduling conflicts and school renovation plans, Act One will NOT be offering a March Break Theatre Camp for March 2025. During the week, the school will be closed from Monday, March 10th through to Sunday, March 16th. Act One will resume classes on Monday, March 17th.
Act One is once again looking forward to presenting its 2025 Theatre Summer Camp. Consisting of four 2-week sessions through July and August, for campers aged 5-14, the camps offer both new and returning campers the opportunity to discover drama and explore its various components in a fun and educational format. All campers will create and perform their own group plays. In addition, campers aged 12+ shoot their own short film, while those 8-11 create their own interpretations of well-known fairy tales. The youngest campers, aged 5-7, work towards presenting their own puppet show.
You can find much more detailed information and the link to the (now open) on-line summer camp registration form on the Camp Programs page. A quicknote to those who may be interested, current and past Act One students and summer campers receive 5% discounts off their 2025 camp fees. In addition, campers registering and paying in full before the end of April 30/25, will receive the 5% Early Registration discount.
Previous Year Camper Performance Videos: A quick reminder to campers from previous years, that the performance videos from all camp sessions are available on the school website, in the Summer Camps section of the Student Gallery. Campers and their families are welcome to relive past experiences. For anyone who wishes to download the videos of a specific camper, please just e-mail the school for the private download link. To ensure only campers and their families have access to their videos, the download function on the school's public website has been disabled.
I hope the above information helps answer many of the common questions I have had over the past couple of weeks and keeps everyone updated with respect to Act One's current and planned future events, activities and programs for the rest of this year.
If anyone has any questions regarding this update or any other topic, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Mark Nathanielsz
