Posted: July 7, 2022.
This notice to the Act One Community provides an update on the students' June 2022 year end performances, Act One’s 2022 Theatre Summer Camp program, and initial information on the school's upcoming 2022/23 classes.
The topics below represent the three most common subject areas that we have been asked about over the past few weeks:
Looking to enjoy a few “dramatic” memories? The instructors and I hope that all students found their yearend performances to be a positive and enjoyable learning experience. It was both a relief and a pleasure to finally be able to invite live audiences back into the school, to watch the students perform and celebrate all their hard work and enthusiasm.
All the shows this past June were successfully filmed. As time permits throughout July, I will be editing all the recordings. When each class show is complete, I will send an e-mail to the families of the students in that class, advising how they can watch and/or download the final performance video. I cannot predict exactly when this will happen for each individual class, but I am aiming to have all shows completed by end of July.
Interested in making summer a little more “dramatic”? Act One is excited to once again be able to offer all four theatre summer camp sessions, this July and August. All sessions will run for a two-week duration and are open to campers aged 5-14 (as of the first day of the camp session). Session I is currently underway but there are still open spots in the remaining upcoming sessions:
We are pleased to be able to resume most of our pre-pandemic camp activities, including allowing live audiences. Once again, the campers can look forward to performing the plays and other material they create at the camp, for their families and friends at the end of session camper shows.
On-line camp registration and session details are available via the Camps section of the Act One school website.
A quick reminder that anyone who has attended a previous Act One class or camp session qualifies for at least a 5% discount off camp fees.
Seeking a “dramatic” Fall? Act One is happy to announce that we will be returning to a full, regular Fall and Winter program, both in format and schedules. This is obviously contingent on the province continuing to maintain or improve on its current pandemic situation.
This means that for 2022/23, we will again be offering a 36-week schedule of weekly classes, divided into two 18-week Fall (Sept to Jan) and Winter (Feb to June) terms. We will also be resuming all three of our live audience student performance events: Winter Cabaret (end of Jan/23); Weekend of Monologues (end of March/23) and the class year end performances (June/23).
For those looking to plan ahead, please note that Act One does not change its class schedule year-to-year. This means that every class that was offerred this past year, will again be offerred this Fall, on the same day, in the same time slot. We do this so all students, both new and returning, can confidently plan well in advance.
The school website will be updated with all relevant information for the upcoming year, by end of July, and on-line registration will be available, as of August 1st.
We hope the above information helps answer many of the common questions we have had over the past couple of weeks and keeps everyone updated with respect to Act One's current and planned future actions, through the summer and into this Fall.
If anyone has any questions regarding this update or any other topic, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Mark Nathanielsz
