This notice provides an update on current Act One activities.
As everyone is probably aware by now, Toronto and Durham (among others) moved into new restriction stages on Monday. Nov 23rd. I want to provide everyone with an overview of the general school situation and adjustments that will be made here in response to these changes.
While things likely will continue to evolve, here is what I know as of now, and steps Act One will be taking to align the school with the Red Zone designation, throughout its duration:
Now that our classes have been running for a couple of weeks, I can now confirm key registration, term and performance information/dates for the 2020/21 school year. Please note that the following reflect our best planning given current circumstances. Unfortunately, they all subject to change, depending on future Durham Region COVID-19 measures.
For more information on the classes that are running, please visit the Classes page.
On behalf of the instructors and myself, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all students participating in our 2020/21 classes. It unfortunately is very easy to be quite pessimistic these days, given COVID numbers and the capacity for denial and irresponsible behavior demonstrated by many of our adult political, social and business leaders, both here and around the world. I just want to express my gratitude and respect for the positive example all the Act One students have been displaying in their time here so far. While an admittedly limited sample size, their willingness to adhere to protocols and adapt to the new reality in a constructive and responsible manner is heartening and helps restore my faith that we can all get through this successfully. Parents should be proud of the fact that their children, in many ways, could serve as positive role models for many adults, regarding how to behave personally and interact with each other in a respectful manner, during a pandemic. I can honestly say that if Act One is able to safely and successfully navigate these unsettled times, a lot of the credit will go to our students.
Following up on my previous update, all the local performing arts high schools have now released their audition information and key dates. For Grade 8 students considering applying, I have included links to the various school websites and key dates students need to be aware of. As mentioned before, students who feel they would benefit from help preparing for their drama. vocal or dance auditions, are welcome to inquire about the coaching programs Act One Offers. More information can be found on the Act One website.
If anyone wishes to discuss the above or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
All of us here at Act One wish everyone a safe and enjoyable upcoming holiday season.
Sincerely,
Mark Nathanielsz
